Appliance Purpose / Function:
- The Nance holding arch is a fixed space maintenance appliance generally used to prevent space loss resulting from bilateral loss of deciduous molars but may be used on the “E’s” if the deciduous 1st molars are lost prematurely.
- May be bent with recurved arms which can facilitate expansion or rotation of the molars.

- Bands on the 1st permanent molars or “E’s”
- .036 wire bend to a mid-point in the palate
- Acrylic button placed against the palate
